EASY SOFTWARE Meets PolyOne’s Archiving Needs and Relieves its SAP R/3
Database PolyOne’s SAP R/3 500 gigabyte database had been growing at a rate of
23% per year, requiring substantial financial investments in disk space.
Large amounts of stored data threatened to create bottlenecks due to poor
application performance and increased demand on resources. PolyOne
Corporation is the largest polymer services company in the world. With over
9000 employees at 80 manufacturing sites in North America, Europe, Asia and
Australia, PolyOne provides the broadest array of customers' solutions, quality
products and services. Deleting data was not an option, as read-only access to certain data
was required by tax authorities and for legal liability. Instead, PolyOne
needed to implement a data archiving solution that would enable quick access
and retrieval of business data while not adding strain to system resources.
Also, the company was running out of numbers for its six-digit coding system
for tracking Production Orders. By archiving existing orders, the company
could recycle production numbers to avoid a costly modification of the
interface. With more than 700 incoming invoices per day in the Accounts
Payable department, the paper-based system required staff members to spend
hours searching for supporting documents and invoices. In addition, the company
absorbed the costs of thousands of long distance faxes and phone calls, and
lost valuable floor space for the physical storage of hundreds of boxes. More.. |

Nobody Really Misses the Paper SHARP Electronics (Europe) GmbH represents the
European IT center and acts as a distribution base that offers support all
over Europe. The company's demands on a central archiving system are high, as
archiving application data from the SAP R/3 database is hardly conceivable
without a really good electronic archive. Our
goal was to keep the continuously growing amount of data as easily accessible
as possible and to reduce the total time used for SAP R/3 business processes. This included
revision-proof archiving of SAP data that needed to be accessible for
evaluation, taking into account the legal requirements of the European SHARP
corporations. Outgoing SAP R/3 documents and incoming paper documents were to
be archived, along with non-SAP documents including outgoing documents
generated from our mainframe-based "European Parts System". For
these documents, the intention was to simplify retrieval with an electronic
archive in order to replace the cost-intensive, awkward-to-handle
microfiches. More. |

Progress through the ages The Central Bank of Austria switches over to
electronic archiving. Taking its predecessor which was established in 1816
into consideration, the Austrian National Bank (Oesterreichische Nationalbank
or OeNB) is the oldest existing joint-stock company in Austria today. Being the
"Bank of all banks" and the "guardian of currency", the
business transactions of the National Bank of Austria (OeNB) are of special
significance. Above all, the development of accounting items is of great
interest. That is why the Federal Reserve Bank Law says that a so-called
"weekly bank return" must be created four times a month. This
report contains a condensed statement, which in turn contains various items
relevant to assess Austria's overall economic situation. This balance sheet,
which contains all weekly and daily returns such as invoices and accounting
records of the "Austria Company", is based on an extensive range of
data daily processed through the latest computer systems. More. |

EASY SOFTWARE Relieves the Load on Thyssen's SAP Database At Thyssen, they have been manufacturing
and selling a broad range of construction products, finished pipe, stainless
steel, aluminium, tool steel, and high-quality metal alloys since 1994. For
most of the company's products, a factory specification certificate document
is required by law. These certificates are required to
guarantee the ingredients and composition of the finished pipe, stainless
steel, aluminium, tool steel, and metal alloy products. With annual sales of
nearly $300 million dollars, that's a lot of certificates. To begin with, the
flood of paper factory certificates makes working productively increasingly
difficult. At one of Thyssen's branches alone, several thousand of these
product-specific certificates are produced each month. Three employees in one
branch and three more in another branch work almost exclusively on searching
and filing these paper documents.
